VUTRAX SOFTWARE ADVICE NOTICE 176 - March 1998

VUTRAX 12.0 - UPDATING YOUR OWN PLOT CONTROL FILES

The change to VUTRAX coordinate system has been made transparent to existing control files and artworks, but can not be made so in PLOT.

Plot control files supplied with the system have all been appropriately modified.

If you have your own customised PLOT control file to modify, the following procedure works for most ordinary control files:-

  • Make a safe copy of the original.

  • Find entries $SI=... and $SJ=... and change each value to a tenth of that originally specified (e.g. 1.0 becomes 0.1)

  • For Matrix, Laser, Ink jet and GDI plotters find entries $SA=... and $SK=... and change each value to ten times that originally specified (i.e. add a zero).

  • For pen, CNC, and other 'vector' plotters with an entry $SZ=... setting default optimisation. Adjust the value part:-
    0 Leave at 0
    32000 Change to -1
Others Change to 10 times the original (i.e. add a 0).

  • For pen and similar plotters having an entry $SB=... setting the edge boarder, and which have a non-zero value, adjust the value to ten times the original (i.e. add a zero).
  • Find entry $So=... and change the value to 1500 to tell PLOT that the configuration file has been changed.

  • Test the output carefully before using for production work.

If these changes do not function, please supply the office with the known working original control file, your modified control file, a test artwork and your plot options. Depending on the difficulty in reproducing the problem (e.g. we probably have no plotter matching yours) and how much work is required for rectification, we may have to charge for the modification work.

An update to the control file documentation (for which a non-disclosure agreement is required) is available.
